As summer winds down, Labor Day presents a last chance to enjoy the summer. Despite the deceiving name, this holiday is the perfect chance to relax for one final, extended weekend before the temperatures begin to cool and the leaves begin to change.
Celebrate Labor Day in the Dallas area with one of these 5 great activities:
1. The Wild Detectives
This unique location is a bookstore, a bar, and a venue all in one. Enjoy a good book and a delicious coffee or adult beverage, or chat with other patrons. Looking for something family friendly? The Wild Detectives will also be hosting Kids in the Cliff Sunday, September 4th. There will be a children’s book reading, a craft table, and enjoy a family picnic in the backyard.
2. Dallas Arboretum
One of the most beautiful and relaxing spots in Dallas is the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. To celebrate the end of summer and Labor Day, the Arboretum is offering $5 admission, which includes the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden. Wander through the beautiful gardens, take a tour of the magnificent DeGolyer home, and enjoy $2 hot dogs and $2 root beer floats at the Dining Terrace.
3. Laughs by the Lake
Kick the weekend off right Friday, September 2nd with Laughs by the Lake. This event begins at 7pm on Lake Carolyn in Irving, TX and is the largest outdoor comedy in North Texas. While this event will not contain any profanity or obscene language, it is geared towards adults and may not be the best option for a family event. But it would make a delightful date or adults night out. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket and a picnic to enjoy along with the show!
4. Eye of the Collector at the Perot Museum
The Perot Museum is one of the best museums in Dallas as it is, but if you’re looking for something unique to do over the Labor Day weekend, check out the “Eye of the Collector” exhibit. Some collections that will be featured include an extensive Star Wars collection, a Pez dispenser collection, and antique duck decoy collections. And of course, take some time to explore the regular exhibits at this family friendly museum!
5. Boat Ride on the Lake
Looking for a way to really send the summer off with a bang? A day at the lake is the perfect way to make Labor Day an unforgettable event. Choose between Lake Lewisville and Lake Ray Hubbard for your relaxing boat ride. Enjoy a beautiful view of the lake, and take a picnic or enjoy a catered meal. With a cruise on the lake, you’re sure to remember your Labor Day fun for years to come!
